Jaffer launches mayoral campaign to deliver real change for Edmonton

Edmonton, AB (June 25, 2025) – Today, former member of parliament and local small business owner Rahim Jaffer officially announced his candidacy for mayor, promising to deliver bold, results-driven leadership to a city in urgent need of revival.
“We all know it – the city isn’t working,” said Jaffer. “People don’t feel safe. Businesses are shutting their doors. Our streets feel abandoned. And now, the same councillors who presided over this decline – while raising taxes – are asking for a promotion. Edmonton is a great city full of endless possibilities. It’s time for fresh leadership with the vision and energy to lead us into a better future.”
Jaffer said his experience balancing budgets, working collaboratively with people from diverse social and political backgrounds, and rebuilding from hardship gives him a unique perspective on what Edmonton needs now.
“I’m not a career politician – I’m someone who understands struggle, has delivered results in both government and business, and believes Edmonton can rise again,” he said. “That starts with restoring public safety, reviving Edmonton’s entertainment and business districts, fixing the transit system, supporting the vulnerable, enhancing the city’s creative communities, and scrapping bad ideas that only make life harder and more expensive.”
Jaffer said Edmontonians are frustrated because they’re doing their part, but the city isn’t working to help them reach their full potential. He pledged to, over the next several months, introduce bold, no-nonsense solutions to the challenges Edmonton faces – because the status quo just isn’t working.
“We can’t afford more delays, empty slogans, or recycled leadership. Edmonton needs new leadership – grounded in real-world experience and driven by results,” Jaffer said. “I’m the only candidate offering the real change Edmonton needs. I’m running for mayor – for all of Edmonton.”
