STATEMENT: Jaffer calls out local media bias

Edmonton, AB (October 8, 2025) - Today, Edmonton mayoral candidate Rahim Jaffer released a statement highlighting how another local media outlet is shutting out change candidates from mayoral debates:

“70 per cent of Edmontonians say they want change. It’s shocking that one of Edmonton’s largest radio stations, 880 CHED, is choosing to have a conversation only with only status quo candidates - people Edmontonians clearly want out of office.

“Corus Entertainment clearly knows Edmontonians want change - their own reporting has shown it time and again. It makes no sense whatsoever that this company is refusing to give a voice to candidates representing change.

“One thing every poll shows is that a large number of Edmontonians still haven’t decided who they’re voting for. This race is wide open. By only giving a platform to status quo candidates like Tim Cartmell, Andrew Knack, and Michael Walters - the very people who helped create the problems we’re facing - Corus Entertainment is failing its responsibility to Edmontonians and to journalism.

“Local media needs to do better. Edmontonians deserve real change and open debates around the future of their city. This is nothing more than the mainstream media putting its thumb on the scale to help status quo candidates who have nothing to offer but more of the same.”
