NEWS RELEASE: Used Hub Cap District

EDMONTON, AB, SEPT. 19, 2025 - Edmonton Mayoral Candidate Rahim Jaffer released his platform containing a policy targeting the Used Hub Cap District. 

If elected Mayor, Rahim will work with council to direct the Edmonton Design Committee to work with land owners and conduct a special duty review and provide recommendations on improving the visitor experience when travelling through the Used Hub Cap District on Gateway Boulevard. 

“Visitors coming to Edmonton from the airport or further south travel through the Used Hub Cap District along Gateway Boulevard and are left with an unpleasant first impression of what Edmonton is about. This harms future return visits and investment. We need Edmonton to leverage its expertise in urban design and make Gateway Boulevard and the Used Hub Cap District a better first impression. Flower pots of petunias won’t cut it anymore.” 

The Edmonton Design Committee (EDC) reviews and provides recommendations to development permit applicants and the City. It is composed of architects, engineers, urban planners, landscapers, and artists and is appointed by City Council.
