NEWS RELEASE: Rahim Jaffer Launches Campaign Platform to Build a Better City - For All of Edmonton
Edmonton, AB, September 18, 2025 – Today, Edmonton mayoral candidate Rahim Jaffer unveiled his comprehensive campaign platform, focused on restoring accountability at City Hall, improving safety, and reigniting Edmonton’s economy.
“Over the past three months, I’ve been honoured to meet with thousands of Edmontonians who have told me one thing over and over again: our city must do better,” said Jaffer. “This is the city where my parents chose to raise me, to build a better future for me. They did so because they knew Edmonton was a place where, through their hard work, they could leave more opportunity for the next generation. It’s time to bring that spirit, that energy, and that mentality back to our city.”
Jaffer’s plan is built on six key pillars designed to get Edmonton back on track:
Freeze the Greed – Putting the city’s finances back in order and delivering real savings to taxpayers for the first time in a generation.
Back to Basics – Fixing City Hall by focusing on priorities and services that matter to taxpayers.
Less Hassle, More Help – Building infrastructure that matters and ensuring the city is not a barrier to businesses and job creators.
Taking Back Our Streets – Hiring 500 additional police officers and ensuring Edmonton’s trains, parks, and communities are safe for everyone.
Better Transit – Creating a transit system people want to use, including a free fare zone downtown that connects universities, major hospitals, and community hubs.
Reviving the Economy – Bringing life back to Edmonton with free evening and weekend parking downtown, streamlined permitting, and making the city truly open for business.
“As mayor, I understand what we need to do to reignite Edmonton’s energy and make this a city of champions once again,” Jaffer added. “Together, with positive ideas, a can-do attitude, and a willingness to disrupt a status quo that has gone so wrong, we can deliver what others say can’t be done. We can build a city that works—not just for you and your family, but for all Edmontonians.”
Jaffer is a former Member of Parliament for Edmonton–Strathcona, serving four terms in Ottawa. Today, he operates a business on Whyte Avenue and sees firsthand the challenges faced by Edmonton’s entrepreneurs. He has lived here, raising his son, Zavier, with the hope of leaving a brighter future for him, just like his parents did for him.
